The successful businessman is at the end of his three year tenure at Asante Kotoko, some reports say, he will not continue as Manhyia is not impressed with him, others say he should continue but will have to do some serious changes to his management and his leadership style, haven’t said that
Dr Kwame Kyei has brought quiet some enviable success at the club, winning the FA Cup, President cup, NC Tier I, CAF Confederation group stage after 10 years, Dominating Hearts/Kotoko fixture etc
His administration has made some wonderful signings such us, Songne Yacouba, Kwame Bonsu, Martin Antwi, Justice Blah, Abdul Safui-mumuni, Augustine Okra, Maxwell Baakoh etc
They’ve also made some real shocking signings as well, though, which isn’t surprising considering the amount of players they’ve signed over 3 years.
Here at ListowelMensah.Blogspot.com we’ve put together an XI of the worst signings made during Kwame Kyei’s reign at the club.
In the post will be Mohammed Muntari Tagoe, the former Medeama shot stopper joined the Porcupine Warriors from Lusaka Dynamos in Zambia in 2018 with a lot of reputation but failed to deliver and left after just a year
Our defenders will be Daniel Darkwah, the left back joined Asante Kotoko in 2018 after running down his contract with Aduana stars, having won the league with the Ogya boys, Darkwah was joining the Kumasi based club as one of the best in his position in the league, but injuries and inconsistencies saw his dream cut short and left as a flop.
Also Wahab Adams, the former Aduana stars hard tackler joined Kotoko on a free in 2018 haven’t won the league, so a lot was expected from him, though he has had some good games in important matches we still think, he hasn’t commanded a spot in the team and now fallen of the pecking order
Samuel Appiah Kubi, joined kotoko too early I think, the left footed midfielder who can also play in defense was put on transfer few months after signing for the club of his dreams, Appiah Kubi fell out with coach CK Akonnor and eventually left the club
Mohammed Sylla, Ivorian midfielder joined Asante Kotoko on a 2-year deal in 2017, he was one of the few foreign guys who got signed in the early days of Dr Kwame Kyei but never live up to the bill and parted ways with kotoko January 2019.
Didi Arnold, joined Asante Kotoko and spent less than 6 months, the Ivorian midfielder was the second highest salary earner at the club but was shambolic on the field, kotoko finally cut their loses by compensating him to leave the country, Didi will remain in history as one of the bad business ever than by a club administrator in Ghana.
Ollenu Ashitey the dangerous dribbler who played for Hearts of oak, joined Asante Kotoko in 2017 after a successful trial, but failed to make the mark, Ollenu was expected to replicate his top form especially when the Black stars B faced Blackstars in a friendly encounter where the attacker nearly ‘ended’ John Boye’s footballing career but it was never the case and eventually left the club.
Teguy zabo it seems Kwame Kyei is just not lucky with players from Ivory Coast as Zabo an attacker also failed at kotoko after joining in 2019.
Frederick Boateng joined kotoko in 2018 having previously played under Coach Paa Kwesi Fabian at Inter allies was expected to replicate that performance at Allies after returning from Welwalo Adigrat University but even after consulting his spiritual pastor Obinim which finally became his name couldn’t deliver and had to leave.
Saddick Adams Okocha joined Asante Kotoko with high reputation having played for Atlético Madrid in Spain and a host of clubs in Africa, the former Ghana International flopped, though kotoko fans will remember his halftime hattrick against hearts of oak in the FA cup final in Kumasi, Saddick never live up to his standard and left the club in a very interesting fashion.
George Abege, the lanky striker from Uganda whose shock transfer to Asante Kotoko in 2019 will remain the worst signing in Ghana football could only play less than 90 mins of competitive football for the Kumasi based club.
The transfer of Abege from Kariobagi Sharks to Asante Kotoko was reported to be $2500.
Dr Kyei’s worst XI signings: Muntari Tagoe,Daniel Darkwah, Wahab Adams, Samuel Appiah Kubi, Mohammed Sylla
Didi Arnold, Ashitey Ollenu, Teguy Zebo, Fredrick Boateng, Saddick Adams, George Abege
