‘I received death threats after my penalty missed’- Edward Sarpong reveals

Ghana National U23 missed the chance to book their ticket Into the Olympic Games after Edward Sarpong missed a crucial penalty in a shoot-out against South Africa in the Africa U23 Championship in Egypt last year.

"I was originally not one of the players selected to take the penalty against South Africa but after the first five had taken, no player was willing to take.”-Sarpong told Saddick Adams

“Coach Tanko was calling some players to step up and kick but they all refused. That is why I stepped up for my country. I think that if I had not played the penalty, the referee would've ended the match as some point because nobody was willing to play.

The 22-year-old defender, continued:

I received death threats, this even made me to delete my twitter handle, I don’t know if it will be safe for me to come to Ghana, even if I do, I think I will need government protection”
