Alvin Toffler once said , “The illiterate of the future will not be people who cannot read or write but the illiterate of the future will be people who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn”. Few believe in love at first sight and Ahotor Zigi Yayra happens to be one of them, watching football became a duty in her childhood days. She was always seen at the backyard playing football with her brothers.
In Junior High School she always made time to play with her classmates and later joined the school team in Senior High School. As good as the team was, Crystal Ladies now Christ Angels was then bringing up the team and went to scout for players in their school team. She gained selection and left school on several occasions to train with them.
After Senior High School, she became a permanent player for the Odorkor side but then the team had less funds in registering for leagues so they usually joined other teams to play when they were not up to number. Yayira played for Rock Ladies, Nimobi Ladies and most of the Accra based Ladies teams. This was a strategy in making them used to the system before registration into the league.
Two years later, they had still not registered to play in the league and Yayira having an aim for joining the side realized ,her goals were not in line with the teams situation so she called Soccer Intellectuals and mentioned her problems to them. She was then asked to come and watch the team play against a side in Koforidua , a qualifier to the Premier League side.
She was thrilled at their performance knowing very well she was not up to the level of the team. Yayira was then put to task for three good years , just playing friendly games and practicing more without playing in the league. This was a very good initiative that changed her zeal for soccer and helped her in so many aspects of her career.
Yayira is a player who has listed targets at every Club she joined. In 2016, she gained admission to the University of Ghana and in course of that, she left to school and joined the school team . She maintained her rapport with Soccer Intellectuals even after then, joining them in training from Thursday to the weekend except examination periods. To her this was the only way to get better than she used to be.
University games was due and the school team traveled all the way to Tamale. In attendance was a coach from the United States of America who was in quest of a zealous female player who doubles as an intellect and Yayira was lucky to be chosen.
Yayira currently plays for the side, Pearl River Community College Women’s Soccer Team and is looking forward to greater heights ahead. She is grateful for not giving up on her football career at a point when people gave up on her for being intellectually inclined and wasting time on football.
