Essien ‘dumps’ Mourinho, selects Liverpool’s legend as his true father- Report

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has shockingly disclosed that former Liverpool legend Gerard Houllier is his god-father in football before Jose Mourinho

“In my third year at Lyon, Gerard [Houllier] who wanted to sign me to Liverpool a few years back, eventually took over as our manager, and he was a very big fan of me, he loved me, and how I played, so when he came he was so happy to finally get the opportunity to work with me”- Essien told SimplyCarol8 on Instagram

“Gerard will always come and talk to me, one day he came and said, look Michael, I know how badly you want to join the premiership, but please stay at Lyon and work with me, I didn’t listen

“Upon my attitude the coach was still very good with me I must say, although we worked together for a short time, he is one of my best coaches ever, he was like my father.”

The 37-year-old Ghanaian International joined Chelsea and became one of the best players for José, and former a father and son relationship but Essien has revealed that Gerard and himself formed same relationship before he moved to England.
